- Genetic disorder of purine metabolism, characterized by elevated serum uric acid

Onset
A
- abrupt onset affecting single joint initially (typically 1st MTP)
- followed by remission 3-5 days but attacks become more frequent leading to severe joint destruction

Medications
A
- NSAIDS, COX-2 inhibitors, colchicine, corticosteroids, ACTH, allopurinol, probenecid, sulfinpyrazone

A
- education for injury prevention and reduction of involved joints
- education on dietary effects of the disease
- early identification of the condition with fast implementation of intervention
