- mycoplasma pneumonia = ATYPICAL PNA = walking pna
- acute, self limiting lower resp tract infections affecting mostly KIDS and young adults (close contacts, family, military) thats spread by AEROSOL and organism binds to resp epithelium but x OUTSIDE –> causes dysfnc of host cells –> lower lobe of LUNGS (PATCHY CONSOLIDATION): SX: fever <2wks, cough 6wks or more. (assoc with stevens-johnson sd?)
- can cause PHARYNGITIS, OTITIS MEDIA
