Musculature of Glutes and Intrinsic Hip Flashcards
Tensor Fascia Latae
O: ASIS; ant. part of iliac crest, iliac tubercle, deep surface of fascia lata
I: IT tract of fascia lata
A: flexion, int. rot, and A24 thigh; tenses fascia lata
N: superior gluteal nerve (L4-S1)
Gluteus Maximus
O: ext. surface-ala of ilium- post. to post. gluteal line, iliac crest, dorsal surface of sacrum, coccyx, and sacrotuberous ligament
I: IT tract; some on gluteal tuberosity of femur
A: extends thigh; assists ext. rotation; steadies thigh flexion; extends pelvis when thigh fixed
N: inf. gluteal nerve (L5-S2)
Gluteus Medius
O: ext. surface of ilium; between ant. and post. gluteal lines
I: lat. surface of greater trochanter of femur
A: A24 of thigh; int. rotation of thigh (ant fibers), ext. rotation (post fibers), steadies pelvis to same side during locomotion
N; sup. gluteal nerve (L4-S1)
Gluteus Minimus
O: ext. surface of ilium; between ant. and inf. gluteal lines
I: ant. surface of greater trochanter of femur
A: A24 and int. rotation of thigh; steadies pelvis
N: sup. gluteal nerve (L4-S1)
Piriformis
O: ant. surface of sacrum, sup margin of greater sciatic notch and sacrotuberous ligament
I: sup. border of the greater trochanter
A: ext. rotation when thigh ext, A24 when thigh flexed; holds head of femur into acetabulum
N: dorsal division branches of ventral rami of S1 and S2
Obturator Internus
O: pelvic surfaces of ilium and ischium; int. surface of obturator membrane
I: med. surface of greater trochanter of femur
A: ext. rotation when thigh ext; A24 flexed thigh; holds head of femur in acetabulum
N: nerve to obturator internus (ventral divisions of L5-S1)
Obturator Externus
O: rami of pubis and ischium; ext. surface of obturator membrane
I: trochanteric fossa of femur
A: ext. rotation of ext. thigh
N: obturator nerve(L3, L4)
Gemellus Superior
O: ischial spine
I: med. surface of greater trochanter of femur
A: ext. rotation of ext. thigh
N: nerve to obturator internus
Gemellus Inferior
O: ischial tuberosity
I: med. surface of greater trochanter of femur
A: ext. rotation of ext. thigh
N: nerve to quadratus femoris
Quadratus Femoris
O: lat. border of ischial tuberosity; inf. to inf glamelli
I: quadrate tubercle on intertrochanteric crest and inf. to it
A: ext. rotates thigh and steadies femoral head in acetabulum
N: nerve to quadratus femoris (ventral divisions of L5-S1)
