Face And Parotid Region Flashcards
Platysma
N: Cervical and mandibular branch of facial n
Buccinator
N: buccal branch of facial nerve
A: Necessary for firmness on the lateral side of the oral cavity
Nasalis
N: zygomatic branch of facial n.;
O: maxilla
I: near alar cartilage of nose
Contains a compressor part and a dilator part
Obicularis Oris
Sphincter muscle that surrounds the mouth
N: buccal and mandibular branches of facial n.
Orbicularis Oculi
N: zygomatic and temporal branches of facial n.
Orbital part = sphincter
Palbebral Part = eyelid
Lacrimal Part = med. extension of eyelid over lacrimal puncta; bathes eyes with tears
Frontalis
N: temporal branch of facial n.
Other Muscles Effecting Movement Around the mouth
Zygomaticus Major= smile muscle
Zygomaticus Minor = sneer muscle along with levators
Mentalis = dimple in the middle of the chin
Risorius = grin muscle
Temporalis
O: floor of temporal fossa and deep surface of temporal fascia
I: tip of medial surface of coronoid process and ant. Border of Ramus of mandible
A: elevates mandible closing jaw; post. Fibers retrude protruded jaw
N: deep temporal branches of mandibular n. (CN V3)
Masseter
O: Inf. Border and med. surface of zygomatic arch
I: lateral surface of Ramus of mandible and its coronoid process
A: elevates and protrudes mandible, closing jaw; deep fibers retrude it
N: masseteric n. = branch of mandibular n. (CN V3)
Lateral Pterygoid
O: sup head-infra temporal surface and infra temporal crest of greater wing of sphenoid; Inf head- Lat. surface of Lat. Pterygoid plate
I: neck of mandible; articular disc and TMJ capsule
A: bilateral-protrudes jaw and drops jaw; alone-produces side to side motion of mandible
N: lateral Pterygoid n. = branch of mandibular n. (CN V3)
Medial Pterygoid
O: deep=med. surface of lateral Pterygoid plate and pyramidal process of process of palatine bone; superficial=tuberosity of maxilla
I: med. surface of Ramus of mandible Inf. To mandibular foramen
A: helps elevate mandible closing jaw; bilateral-helps protrude mandible; unilateral-produces grinding
N: medial Pterygoid n. - branch of mandibular n. (CN V3)
