Neck, 7 vertebrae, controls muscles of breathing
Thoracic spine division
Thorax, ribs, upper back - 12 vertebrae, attached to ribs
Lumbar spine division
Lower back - 5 vertebrae, not supported by other parts of skeleton
Sacral spine division
Back wall of pelvis - 5 vertebrae
Coccyx spine division
Tailbone - 4 vertebrae
Thorax
Chest, bones of thorax forms thoracic cavity
Thoracic cavity
Contains heart, lungs, major blood vessels, 12 pairs of ribs attached to to 12 vertebrae (2 of these ribs are ‘floating’)
Sternum
Manubrium (superior), body (center, xiphoid process (inferior tip)
Pelvis
Ilium - superior bone containing iliac crest (wide, bony wing felt at waist)
Ischium - inferior, posterior
Hip joint - acetabulum (ball socket) & ball
Femur
Large thigh bone, largest long bone
Patella
Kneecap, anterior to knee joint
Tibia (shinbone)
Medial and larger bone of lower leg
