Medial cuneiform and base of 1st metatarsal bone.
ACTION
Dorsiflexes and inverts foot.

Extensor Hallucis Longus

ORIGIN
Anterior shaft of fibula and interosseous membrane. INSERTION
Base of distal phalanx of big toe, hallux, or great toe. ACTION
Big toe extension, foot dorsiflexion, and foot inversion.
INNERVATION
Deep peroneal.
Extensor Digitorum Longus

ORIGIN
The lateral condyle of tibia, anterior shaft of fibula, and interosseous membrane.
INSERTION
Four tendons insert into the dorsal surface of middle and distal phalanges of lateral four digits.
ACTION
Extends last four toes, dorsiflexes foot. INNERVATION
Deep peroneal.
Gastrocnemius

ORIGIN
The medial and lateral condyles of the femur.
INSERTION
The calcaneus via the tendo calcaneus/Achilles tendon.
ACTION
Plantar flexes foot and flexes knee.
INNERVATION
Tibial.
Soleus

ORIGIN
Fibula and Soleal line of the tibia.
INSERTION
The calcaneus via the tendo calcaneus/Achilles tendon.
ACTION
Plantar flexes foot.
INNERVATION Tibial.
Plantaris

ORIGIN
The lateral supracondylar ridge of femur. INSERTION
The calcaneus via the tendo calcaneus/Achilles tendon.
ACTION
Flexes knee, assists gastrocnemius in plantar flexion of foot.
INNERVATION
Tibial.
Flexor Hallucis Longus

ORIGIN
The posterior shaft of the fibula.
INSERTION
Base of distal phalanx of hallux.
ACTION
Flexes great toe, inverts foot, and assists in plantar flexion.
INNERVATION
Tibial.
Flexor Digitorum Longus

ORIGIN
Posterior shaft of tibia.
INSERTION
Bases of the distal phalanges of 2nd-5th toes. ACTION
Flexes lateral four toes, inverts foot, and assists in plantar flexion.
INNERVATION
Tibial.

Posterior shafts of tibia and fibula and interosseous membrane.
INSERTION
Plantar surfaces of navicular and cuboid, as well as the second, third and fourth metatarsals.
ACTION
Plantar flexes and inverts foot.

Proximal lateral shaft of fibula.
INSERTION
First metatarsal bone and medial cuneiform. ACTION
Plantar flexes and everts foot.
INNERVATION
Superficial peroneal.

Distal lateral shaft of fibula.
INSERTION
Fifth metatarsal.
ACTION
Plantar flexes and everts foot.
INNERVATION
Superficial peroneal.
