Muscles of the Thigh + leg Flashcards
Name the Quadraceps and where the loacted ?
4 quadraceps - Anterior Thigh
0 Rectus Femorsis - crosses hip and knee - involve din hip flexion and knee extension. ( Covers Vastus intermedias )
0 Vastus lateralis
0 Vastus Intermedias
0 Vastus medialis
* All three only cross knee - attach to quadraceps tendon then continue into patella tendon.
What part of the thigh does the femoral nerve innervate ?
What nerve root is the femoral nerve derived from ?
Anterior Thigh
Innervates Quadraceps and hip flexors
L2 -L4
Passes through femoral triangle ( Sartorius , inguinal L , Adductor Longus )
* Femoral a , n, v , femoral canal - containing deep lymph nodes ( contained within femoral sheath )
Name the muscles contained in the anterior thigh ?
0 Rectus Femorsis
0 Vastus lateralis
0 Vastus Intermedias
0 Vastus medialis
Hip Flexors
0 Sartorius
0 Pectineus (dual innervation - femoral & obturator n (medial thigh nerve ) - base of femoral triangle.
0 Psoas major - originates from lumbar spine
0 illacus - orginates from the iliac fossa of pelvis
Psoas + illiacus = illiopsoas - combine and insert on the lesser trocanter of femur.
Function of Sartorius ?
hip flexion & Hip extension .
Name the Hamstrings and where the loacted ?
Places of attachment
Hamstrings - 3 muscles
0 Semimembranous - mostly covered by semitendious
0 Semitendinous
0 Long head of Biceps Femoris
Attach to ischial tuboristy - bottom of pelvis , tails attach to medial surface of tibia.
ALL CROSS HIP AND KNEE - involved in Hip extension and knee flexion.
Posterior compartment
Muscles in the posterior compartment of thigh ?
0 Semitendious
0 Semimembraneous
0 Long head of Biceps Femoris
0 Short head of Biceps Femoris - not a hamstring does not cross both hip and knee - only knee.
What part of the thigh does the Sciatic nerve innervate ?
What nerve root is the Sciatic nerve derived from ?
Posterior Thigh
L4 - S3
Innervates Hamstrings +
Muscles in the Medial compartment of thigh ?
Great Major League Basket players - GMLBP
G - Gracilis - inserts on linea aspera (LP) M - Magnus (adductor) L - Longus (adductor ) B - Brevis (adductor) * these L AND B insert very close to LP P - Pectineus M inserts on linea aspera.
Hip adduction ( movement of leg closer ot body )
Longus more superfical , brevis & magnus behind it.
Magnus - adductor & posterior part - so involved in hip extension & adduction
What part of the thigh does the Oburator nerve innervate ?
What nerve root is the nerve derived from ?
Medial Thigh
L2 -L4
What muscles abduct the Hip ?
G - Gracilis -
M - Magnus (adductor)
L - Longus (adductor )
B - Brevis (adductor)
P - Pectineus
Great major league Baseball Players
What muscles abduct the Hip ?
POSTERIOR
0 Gluteus Medius
0 Gluteus Maximus
ANTERIOR
0 Fasciae Latae.
0 Saritorius ( not sure )
