What is Round ligament pain?
A
Round Ligament - attaches the uterine fundus to the labia majora. (attach the uterus to pelvis holding it in place)
CHARACTER
0 Sharp, stabbing, pain on either side of the abdomen (can be both - normally right) -where round ligament located.
- Common in pregnancy, especially 2nd trimester. (not usually dangerous )
CAUSE
Pregnancy hormones cause the round ligaments to be looser, more elastic - send them into spasm as the uterus grows bigger causing pain.
AGGRAVATING FACTORS
- Sudden movement (sitting/standing)
- Increased abdominal pressure e.g sneezing, coughing, laughing.

A
0 Pain relief - para
0 Change position slowly
0 rest on side - pillow btw legs.
0 Warm bath
0 Antenatal yoga
0 Lean forward when coughing / sneezing.
