Plantarflexes the ankle
Assists with:
-Knee flexion
-Rearfoot inversion
Soleus Proximal Attachment
Soleal line and middle third of the tibia; head, neck, and proximal third of the fibula
Soleus Distal Attachment
Calcaneus (via Achilles tendon)
Soleus Innervation
Tibial n. [S1,*S2]
Soleus Action
Plantarflexes the ankle
Assists with:
-Rearfoot inversion
Popliteus Proximal Attachment
Lateral condyle of the femur and lateral meniscus
Popliteus Distal Attachment
Posterior surface of the tibia above the soleal line
Popliteus Innervation
Tibial n. [L4,L5,S1]
Popliteus Action
Flexes the knee
Medially rotates tibia (femur fixed)
Flexor Digitorum Longus (FDL) Proximal Attachment
Middle posterior tibia
