Muscles of the forearm Flashcards
What are the 4 muscles of the superficial group of the anterior compartment of the forearm?
- Pronator Teres
- Flexor carpi radialis
- palmaris longus
- flexor carpi ulnaris
What are the muscles of the intermediate group of the anterior compartment of the forearm?
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis
What are the 3 muscles of the deep group of the anterior compartment of the forearm?
- Flexor Digitorum Profundus
- Flexor Pollicis Longus
- Pronator Quadratus
Where does pronator teres attach?
Lateral surface of Radius
Where does flexor carpi radialis attach?
base of metacarpals 2 and 3
Where does palmaris longus attach?
Palmar aperneuorsis of the hand
Where does flexor carpi ulnaris attach?
pisiform/hamate and the base metacarpal 5
Other than flexion wrist, what actions do flexor carpi radialis / ulnaris produce?
Flexor carpi RADIALIS = ABDUCT
Flexor carpi ULNARIS = ADDUCT
What is the nerve supply to the superificial flexors of the wrist?
Median Nerve :
- pronator teres
- flexor carpi radialis
- palmaris longus
Ulnar Nerve :
-Flexor carpi ulnaris
What is the origin and insertion of brachioradialis?
Origin : Supracondylar Ridge
Insertion : Styloid Process of radius
What is the nerve supply of brachioradialis?
Radial nerve ( C5, C6 )
To which phalanges does flexor digitorum superficialis attach?
Attaches to the middle phalanges of
- Index
- Middle
- Ring
- Little finger
what is the origin and insertion of flexor digitorum profundus?
ORIGIN :
- upper 3/4 of the anterior / medial surfaces of the ulna
- interosseous membrane
INSERTION :
-Base of the distal phalanges of digits 2-5
What is the innervation of flexor digitorum profundus?
MEDIAN nerve = Lateral half (digits 2 and 3)
ULNAR nerve = Medial half (digits 4 and 5)
Where does the median nerve lie in relation to flexor digitorum superficialis?
lies DEEP to flexor digitorum superificialis
