Muscles of anterior forearm Flashcards
What are the origins/insertions of the pronator teres?
Origin: 2 headed: Medial supracondylar humerus ridge, medial coronoid process of ulna
Insertion: Middle 1/3 of anterolateral radius
What is the function of the pronator teres joints
Pronates the forearm at radioulnar joints
What innervates pronator teres?
Median nerve (C6-7)
What supplies the pronator teres with blood
Ulnar recurrent and collateral artery, radial artery
What are the origins/insertions of flexor carpi radialis?
Origin: Medial epicondyle of humerus
Insertion: Palmar aspects of bases f 2nd and 3rd metacarpal bones
What is the action of flexor capi radialis
Flexes hand at the radiocarpal (wrist) joint, abdcuts hand at radiocarpal, midcarpal joints
What innervates flexor carpi ulnaris?
Median nerve (C6-7)
What supplies flexor carpi ulnaris with blood?
Radial artery, posterior branch of ulnar recurrent artery
What muscle of the anterior forearm is absent in some
Palmaris longus
What are the insertions and origins for flexor carpi ulnaris?
Origin: Medial epicondyle of humerus via common flexor tendon,
Inserion: Pisiform, hook of hamate, palmar aspect of base of 5th metacarpal bone
What is the action of flexor carpi ulnaris?
Flexes and adducts at radiocarpal joint
What innervates flexor carpi ulnaris?
Ulnar nerve (C7-T1)
What supplies flexor carpi ulnaris with blood?
Ulnar artery, ulnar recurrent artery
What are the origins and insertions of flexor digitorum superficialis?
Origin: medial epcindyle of humerus, via common flexor tendon.
Also parts of proximal ulna and radius
Insertion: Palmar aspects of bodies of middle phalanges of 2nd to 5th fingers
What is the function of flexor digitorum superficialis?
Flexes index, middle, ring, and little fingers at proximal interphalangeal joint, and metacarpophalangeal joint
What innervates the flexor digitorum superficialis?
Median nerve (C7-T1)
What artery supplies the flexor digitorum superficialis?
Anterior branch of ulnar recurrent artery, ulnar and radial arteries
WHat are the origins/insertions of flexor digitorum profundus
Origin: Coronoid process and upper ulna
Insertion: Palmar aspects of bases of distal phalanges 2nd to 5th
WHat are the functions of flexor digitorum profundus
Flexion of DIP, PIP, and MCP joints 2nd to 5gth
What does this describe:
“A strong fibrous band that passes between the medial and lateral carpal bones, forms the roof of the carpal tunnel, stops long flexor tendons from bowstringing”
Flexor retinaculum
What does this describe?
“Distally its attachments split and attach to either side of the middle phalanges of the lateral 4 digits.
Flexes the MCP and PIP joints of lateral joints only
Flexor digitorum superficialis
What does this describe?
Attaches to distal phalanges of lateral 4 digits, Flexor of these lies deep in the forearm, flexes MCP, PIP, DIP joints
Flexor digitorum profundus
What does this describe:
Flexor of the MCP and IP joint of the 1st digit
Flexor pollicis longus
What is the origin/insertion of flexor pollicis longus?
Anterior surface of radius,
Insertion: Palmar aspect of base of distal phalanx of thumb
