Muscles Flashcards
Strap muscles
Shaped like strap or belt
Fusiform
Type of parallel muscle, wider and cylindrical shaped
Fan shaped
Parallel muscle, fibres converge at one end and spread over broad area to the other end
Parallel muscles
Most common types of muscles, fibres run parallel to force generating axis
Pennate muscles
One or more aponeuroses run through muscle body from tendon. Three different types: unipennate, bipennate, multipennate
Circular muscles
Act as sphincters to adjust opening
Isotonic contraction
variable muscle length, constant tension, concentric: muscle shortens, eccentric, muscle extends
Isometric contraction
Constant length variable tension
Intercalated discs
Found in myocardium, act as a functional syncytium as opposed to true syncytium in skeletal muscle
