Connective Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
Fascia
A
Made up of closely packed bundles of collagen fibres (produced by fibroblasts) which are oriented in a wavy pattern, flexible
2
Q
Osteogenesis imperfecta
A
Mutated collagen fibres that do not “knit together” or not enough produced. Results in weakened bones, short stature, blue sclera
3
Q
Function of ground substance
A
Provides hydration, mechanical support, allows nutrients diffusion
4
Q
Reticular fibres
A
Thin delicate fibres made up of type III collagen, form a mesh-like network that provides structural support in soft tissues
5
Q
Elastic fibres
A
Elastin is primary component but it also is surrounded by microfibrils called fibrillin, the elastin fibres are straight under tension
