Muscle part 3 Flashcards
What are the 3 phases of muscle twitch?
- Latent phase
- Contraction phase
- Relaxation
What happens in the Latent phase?
signal for SR release of calcium, which then diffuses and bunts to troponin
What happens in the Contraction phase?
actin myosin cross-bridges form and power stroke of contraction draws the thin myofilaments (actin) towards the center of the sarcomere
What happens in Relaxation?
calcium is sequestered from the sarcoplasm back into the SR, tropomyosin reverts back to the position physically blocking the actin-myosin binding sites
The two factor that dictate graded response are:
- Frequency of stimulation
2. Strength of stimulus
What are the types of contraction?
Isotonic
Isometric
_____ length of muscle changes as uniform tension is generated, resulting in movement
Isotonic
_____ although tension is generated the muscle does not shorten because the tension does not exceed the resistance, thus position is maintained.
Isometric
