Muscle of the Back Flashcards
What are the Heads of the Trapezius Muscle?
There is an Upper, Middle and lower head to this muscle.
Where is the Trapezius located?
This muscle lies superficially along the upper back and neck.
What is the (O) and (I) for the Upper head of the Trap?
(O) EOP, Medial portion of the Superior Nuchal line, Ligamentum Nuchae and Spinous process of C7 to T12.
(I) Lateral 1/3 of the clavicle, Acromion and Spine of the Scapula.
What is the Action for the Upper portion of the Trap?
Unilaterally: Ipsilateral lateral Flexion of the head and Neck. Contralateral rotation of the head and neck.
Elevation of the Scapula.
Upwardly rotate the Scapula.
Bilaterally: Extension of the Head and Neck.
What is the Action for the Middle portion of the Trap?
Adduction of the Scapula, Stabilization of the Scapula.
What is the Action for the Lower portion of the Trap?
Depression of the Scapula, Upwardly rotate Scapula.
What is the Nerve of the Trap?
Spinal portion of cranial nerve XI and ventral ramus C2, 3, 4.
Where is the Latissimus Dorsi located?
Located on the Lower to middle back reaching to the Anterior portion of the GH joint.
What is the (O) and (I) of the Latissimus Dorsi?
(O) Spinous process of T6-12 and ribs 8-12, Thoracolumbar Aponeurosis and Posterior Iliac crest.
(I) Interubecular Groove of the Humerus.
What is the Action of the Latissimus Dorsi?
Extends the GH joint, Abduction of the GH joint, Medial rotates the GH joint.
What is the Nerve of the Latissimus Dorsi?
Thoracodorsal C6, 7, 8.
What is Teres Major?
This muscle is lats little helper as it does the same actions as the Lat muscle.
What is the (O) and (I) for the Teres Major?
(O) Inferior angle and lower 1/3 of lateral border of the Scapula.
(I) Crest of the lesser tubercle of the Humerus.
What is the Action of the Teres Major?
Extension of the GH joint, Adduction of the GH joint, Medial rotation of the Gh joint.
What is the nerve associated with the Teres Major?
Lower sub scapular C5, 6, 7.
Where is the Splenius Capits and Cervicis Located?
Along the Upper back and neck towards the base of the skull.
What is the Action of the Splenius Capitis & Cervicis?
Unilaterally: Ipsilateral Rotation of the head and neck.
Ipsilateral lateral flexion of the head and neck.
Bilaterally: Extension of the Head and Neck.
