muscle articulations Flashcards
synarthrotic
doesn’t move (skull and teeth).
ampiarthrotic
slight movement (radius and ulna).
diarthrotic
complete movement in synaptic joints (fluid filled cavities).
fibrous joints
held together by fibrous connective tissue, synarthrotic and ampiarthrotic ex: (sutures in skull).
cartilaginous joints
connected to bone only by cartilage, synarthrotic and ampiarthrotic ex: (temporary joint attached to a long bone (humerus and pubic bone).
synovial joints
includes cavity that has synovial fluid and has six types of joints.
six types of synovial joints
ball and socket, hinge, plane, pivot, saddle, and condylar.
flexion
to bend, flexus.
extension
stretching out, estensio.
abduction
move body away from midline (raising arm).
adduction
move body toward midline (having arms by your side).
circumduction
moving an extremity in a circle (arms and legs).
rotation
movement of body part around axis (moving foot laterally and medially).
depression
moving body part inferiorly (sagging shoulders).
elevation
moving body part superiorly (shrugging shoulders).
protraction
moving body part anteriorly (moving jaw forward).
retraction
moving body part posteriorly (moving jaw backwards).
pronation
moving body part from anterior position to posterior position (palm to back of hand).
supination
moving body part from posterior to anterior (back of hand to palm).
opposition
when your thumb crosses your palm to touch another finger (thumb to ring finger).
reposition
when you thumb goes from crossing your palm to original anatomical position.
dorsiflexion
moving ankle toward the dorsum (flexing up)
plantarflexion
moving ankle toward plantar surface (pointing your feet)
eversion
moving ankle so that the sole of the foot is facing laterally.
inversion
moving ankle so that the sole of the foot is facing medially.
