Muscle and Connective tissue Flashcards
Muscle tissue
highly cellular, well vascularised, and responsible for body movement
Skeletal msucle
Attached to bones - contraction pulls on bone creating movement
Muscle cells - muscle fibres, multinucleated, nucleus sits on the periphery of muscle cells
Striated - comes from myofilaments
Voluntary control
Cardiac muscle
Found in the walls of the heart; pump blood around body
Striated with intercalated disks - ensure muscle contract in a coordinated fashion
Under involuntary control
Smooth muscle
Walls of hollow organs; stomach, bladder, uterus, blood vessels
No striations, one nucleus per muscle cell
Involuntary control
Nervous tissue
Main component of the nervous system
Neurons, supporting tissues (neuroglia)
Neurons - cell body, dendrites (input), axon (conducting/transmitting info)
