Q

advantage of MSM

A
  • supportive evidence
  • Alan Baddley
findings: harder to recall words that sound same in STM
  • harder to recall words with similar meaning in LTM

RELIABILITY -consistent with MSM

Q

weaknesses of MSM

A

artificial materials eg digit span
-arent used in everyday life
-cant be used to explain memory in everyday life
LOW EXTERNAL VALIDITY

simplistic model
-evidence of more than one STM store
FK had amnesia. recalls good when read to himself however was worse when read to him.
-could be another store for non-verbal sounds
LOW INTERNAL VALIDITY

-MSM doesn’t account for other rehearsal types.
-elaborate rehearsal = used to link info to what they already know(adds meaning to info)
-ignored by MSM
