When to consider FSH testing?
Aged 40-45 with menopausal symptoms including irregular menstrual cycles
Aged under 40 and menopause is suspected
What are the risks of HRT?
VTE (with oral not transdermal HRT)
Stroke
Breast cancer
What non-HRT options are available for the management of vasomotor symptoms?
SSRIs such as Fluoxetine or Citalopram, or SNRIs eg Venlafaxine
What is meant by premature ovarian failure?
Menopause before the age of 40
What HRT should be offered to women with premature ovarian failure?
Combined HRT until the age of 51
What contraception advise is needed during menopause?
Need for contraception following the menopause:
12 months after last period in women aged >50
24 months after last period in women aged <50
