MSMM Flashcards
Duration
How long the information lasts for
Coding
Putting information into codes which can be remembered easier such as chunks
Sensory memory
The memory stores for each of our five stores such as vision (iconic store) and hearing (echoic store).
Retrieval
When information is recalled back from the LTM
Acoustic coding
When information is coded with sound
Semantic coding
When information is coded in terms of meanings
Maintenance rehearsal
Occurs when we repeat memory to ourselves over and over again E.g. Remembering a pin or phone number
Elaborating rehearsal
Linking information to your current knowledge without knowing what it is
Decay
When information is broken up and forgotten from the LTM as its not needed
Retrieval failure
Not being able to retrieve the information from the LTM
Interference
Forgetting because one memory blocks the other
Iconic memory
The sensory register that stores information
Echoic memory
The sensory register that stores auditory information
Capacity
How much information your it can hold
Declarative
memores that are explicit, can be put into words
