What bones does the Scapula articulate with and what are the names of the joints?
Articulates with the humerus at the glenohumeral joint, and with the clavicle at the acromioclavicular joint
What surface of the Scapula is this?

Costal Surface
What is the landmark shaded in blue?
What muscle originates from this landmark?

Subscapular Fossa
The Subscapularis (one of the rotator cuff muscles)
What is the landmark shaded in red?
Two muscles attach and another originates to this landmark, what are they?

Coracoid Process
Short head of the biceps brachii and the pectoralis minor attach here
Corocobrachialis muscle originates from here
What is the landmark shaded in green?

Acromion
What surface of the Scapula is this?

Lateral Surface
What is the landmark shaded in yellow?
What bone articulates here and what is the name of the joint?

Glenoid Fossa
The head of the humerus articulates here
The Glenohumeral joint
What bony landmarks are immediately above and below the yellow shaded landmark?
What muscles attach here?

Above = Supraglenoid Tubercle
Below = Infraglenoid Tubercle
The Supraglenoid Tubercle is the site of attachment for the long head of the biceps brachii
The Infraglenoid Tubercle is the site of attachement for the long head of the triceps brachii
What surface of the Scapula is this?

Posterior Surface
What is dividing the orange and purple shaded landmarks?

The Spine
What is the purple shaded region?
What muscle originates from this region?

The Supraspinous Fossa
The Supraspinatus muscle
What is the orange shaded region?
What muscle originates from this region?

The Infraspinous Fossa
The Infraspinatus
What is the green shaded landmark?
What does it artciulate with?

The Acromion
Articulates with the clavicle
How common are Scapula fractures?
Uncommon
What is a fracture of the Scapula an indication of?
Severe Chest Trauma
When are fractures of the scapula most frequently seen?
High speed road collisions, crushing injuries, or sports injuries.
Why does a fractured scapula not require much intervention?
The tone of the surrounding muscles will hold the pieces together for healing to occur
What is this called?

Winged Scapula
What muscle attaches to the costal face of the scapula and pulls it against the ribcage?
What nerve innervates it?
The Serratus Anterior
Innervated by the Long Thoracic nerve
How does this condition occur?

Damage to the long thoracic nerve, which can be damaged by trauma to the shoulder, repetitive shoulder movement or inflamed structures pressing on the nerve
