Msk Patholgies (lower Limb) Flashcards
What’s hip dysplasia
Hip socket doesn’t cover ball portion of thigh bone so hip joint may become fully dislocated, joint made out of cartilage gradually hardens into bone if ball isn’t seated into socket
What are the types of hip impingement
(FAI) fémoral acetabular impingement, (CAM), and pincer
What’s an FAI hip impingement
Femoral acetabulum impingement characterised by normal contact between acetabulum and femoral head neck junction can occur as a result of bony abnormalities
What’s a CAM hip impingement t
Extra bony growth on femoral neck head, found particularly in athletic adolescents as the growth plate on the head and neck of femur can be stressed, caused by irregular Osseus growth prominence of prox fem neck or head can become symptomatic in physically active young people
What’s a (pincer) hip impingement
Result of excess acetabulum coverage of fem head over coverage can either be global or focal results in abatement of fem head neck junction against acetabulum rim pressing on labrum
Symptoms of FAI
Sitting crossed leg is difficult, difficulty putting in socks and shoes, sitting for long periods of time
What’s an osteochondral defect
Refers to a focal area of damage including separation of the osteochondral fragment caused by an acute traumatic injury or as a result of an unstable fragment in osteochondritis disease
What are subchondral cysts
Synovial fluid intrusion which proposes articular surface defects and increased intra articular pressure allows intrusion of synovial fluid into bone
What’s meniscus vascularisation
The blood supply to the meniscus, subsides in adulthood, red region, outer is vascularised, inner region avascular white region
