Msk Patnologies (osteoarthiritis) Flashcards
What’s hip osteoarthritis
Loss of joint space, ostéophyte formation, subchondral sclerosis, subchondral cysts, deformity
What’s articular cartilage
Structure and composition of normal cartilage and subchondral bone shows histology, cartilage composed of extra cellular matrix produced by Chondrocytes, extra cellular matrix = 80% water, collagen fibres, proteogylcans, glycosaminoglycams,and non collagenous chondrocytes
What are the bony changes in OA (Kell gren Lawrence classification)
0= normal
1= doubtful, narrowing of joint space, possible ostéophyte development
2- definite ostéophytes, questionable narrowing of joint space
3- moderate narrowing, sclerosis, joint deformity
4- large ostéophytes marked narrowing, severe sclerosis
What’s subchondral bone
Osteoclasts initiate bone matrix réabsorption osteoblasts then invade matrix leading to new bone formation , osteoclasts release enzymes which are responsible for breakdown of bone matrix
