Movement Analysis Flashcards
What is a lever?
A lever is a rigid bar that turns about an axis to create movement.
What is the fulcrum?
The fulcrum is the fixed point at which a lever turns or is supported.
What is the load?
The load is the weight or resistance that the lever must move.
What is the effort?
The effort is the force required to move the load.
What is a first class lever?
A first class lever is where the fulcrum is midway between the effort and the load.
What is the second class lever?
A second class lever is where the load is between the effort and the fulcrum.
What is the third class lever?
A third class lever is where the effort is midway between the fulcrum and the load.
What is the load arm?
The load arm is the distance from the load to the fulcrum.
What is the effort arm?
The effort arm is the distance from the effort to the fulcrum.
What is mechanical advantage?
It measures the efficiency of a lever.
What is the equation for mechanical advantage?
Mechanical advantage = effort arm divided by load arm.
What is flexion?
Flexion is the decrease in the angle of bones at a joint.
What is extension?
Extension is an increase in the angle of bones at a joint.
What is abduction?
Abduction is the movement of a bone or limb away from the mid line of the body.
What is adduction?
Adduction is movement of a bone or limb towards the mid line of the body.
