Movement Analysis Flashcards
What is a lever?
Rigid bar that turns around the fulcrum to create movement. (BONES)
What is the load?
The weight or resistance that the lever must move. (OBJECT)
What is the effort?
The force required to move the load. (MUSCLES)
What is the fulcrum?
The point at which a lever turns or is supported. (JOINTS)
Explain what is meant by F L E ?
1 2 3
First class lever has the fulcrum in the middle.
Second class lever has the load in the middle.
Third class lever has the effort in the middle.
Define First Class Lever.
Has the fulcrum between the effort and the load.
Define Second Class Lever.
Have the load between the fulcrum and the effort.
Define Third Class Lever.
Have the effort between the fulcrum and the load.
What sporting action replicates a First Class Lever(2)?
Heading, Boxing
What body parts act as a First Class Lever?
Neck, Elbow - extension
What body part acts as a Second Class Lever?
Ankle - Plantar Flexion
Where does a second class lever happen in sport?
Basketball, Football (any jumping example)
What body part acts as a Third Class Lever?
Elbow, Knee
What sporting action replicates a Third Class Lever(3)?
Kicking a ball, Running, Jumping
Draw a linear version of a First Class Lever
load __________effort
fulcrum (in the middle)
Draw a linear version of a Second Class Lever
_________load______effort
Draw a linear version of a Third Class Lever.
________effort_______load
What are the symbols used when drawing levers?
Effort - arrow
Load - Square/Rectangle
Fulcrum - Triangle
What is an axis?
A line about which a body part can turn
What is the effort arm?
Where the force is applied to the lever.
What is the load arm?
Moves the weight or resistance.
How do you calculate mechanical advantage?
Effort Arm / Load Arm
What is mechanical advantage?
When the effort arm is greater than the load arm.
What is mechanical disadvantage?
When the load arm is greater than the effort arm.
What is a frontal plane?
Divides the body into front and back halves.
What is a sagittal plane?
Divides the body into sides (left and right)
What is a transverse plane?
Divides the body into top anD bottom.
What is a plane?
Imaginary flat surface through the body
What is a transverse axis?
Table football player.
What is a longitudinal axis?
Passes vertically from top to bottom.
What is a sagittal axis?
Passes through the belly button.
Which direction is the effort pointing in a first class lever?
Downwards
Which direction is the effort pointing in a second and third class lever?
Upwards
