First Class Lever
Fulcrum is in the middle of the effort and the load
eg. Raising your head to head a football
Second Class Lever
Load is in the middle between the fulcrum and the effort
eg. Standing on tiptoe to jump for a header, planter flex ion of ankle, sprint take off, jump
Third Class Lever
The effort is between the fulcrum and the load
eg. Preacher Curl, striking or hitting balls
Remember with first, second and third class levers…
FLE (each mid)
Plantar and dorsi flexion of ankle
Plantar (extended)
Dorsi (up)
Mechanical Advantage
Effort arm / Weight arm
Circumduction of shoulder
Arm moves in circle
Flexion of shoulder
Arm moves up
Extension of shoulder
Arm moves down
Hyper extension of shoulder
Arm moves behind body
Abduction of shoulder
Arm moves sideways up
Adduction of shoulder
Arm moves sideways down
Sagittal Plane
Cuts body into left and right side
Movement along this plane tends to be moving forwards or backwards
Frontal Plane
Cuts body in half sideways, front and back
Can be a star jump, or cartwheel
Transverse plane
Cuts body in half, top and bottom
Movements could include spinning
