Last Minute Weaknesses Flashcards
What is the Cardiac Output?
Stroke Volume x Heart Rate
What are some considerations to prevent injury?
- A warmup
- Appropriate clothing
- Stretches
- Hydration
- Technique (form) should be correct
- Appropriate rest for recovery
What happens during preseason?
- Preparation for comp season
- Aerobic fitness
- Specific fitness weaknesses
What happens during competitive season?
- Maintaining fitness levels
- Practicing techniques
- Skills
What happens during post season?
- Rest muscles
- Light aerobic training to maintain general fitness
What should be involved in a warm up?
- Pulse raising activity (increases heart and breathing rate for muscles)
- Stretching (Increases flexibility increasing range of movement at a joint, prevents injury for a gymnast)
- Mental Preparation (positive self talk, visualisation, etc)
- Skill based practices (practicing technique)
What should be involved in a cooldown?
- Maintaining breathing and heart rate, (light jog, walking, keeps oxygen uptake high so lactic acid is removed and oxygen debt is paid off so there is less fatigue)
- Gradual reduction in intensity
- Stretching
PREVENTS DOMS
Short term effects of exercise
- Tiredness
- Light headedness
- Fatigue
- Cramps, DOMS
Long term effects of exercise
- Hypertrophy
- Improved speed
- Stamina
- CVD
- Strength
- Etc
What movement occurs at the sagittal plane?
- Movement forward and backwards
- kicking a football
- Walking
What movement occurs at the frontal plane?
Side to side movements
- Eg a cartwheel
What movement occurs at the transverse plane?
Twisting movements
- Spinning in skating, pivoting in netball
What movement occurs in the transverse axis?
- left to right through middle of body
- SOMERSAULT
What movement occurs in the sagittal axis?
- from front to back through center of body
- Eg. a CARTWHEEL
What movement occurs in the Longitudinal axis?
- From top to bottom through center of body
- Spinning, skater
