motor learning 3- CH 9 Flashcards
What is Filter Theory and what is it also referred to as?
“Bottleneck”
-Difficulty doing multiple tasks simultaneously because of inability to process multiple stims
What is resource capacity theory?
Difficulty doing multiple tasks because of limited availability of resources needed to carry out task.
what is Centeral resource theory
Propose one central source of attention resources for which all activities compete (car ex.)
Which attentional theory is Kahnemans attention theory an example of
Central resource theory
What is Kahnemans attention theory?
The amount of attention capacity available for a specific performance situation is determined by the persons arousal lvl. (capacity limits set by arousal)
What are the 3 rules people use to allocate attention resources when performing multiple tasks (Kahnemans attention theory)
- Ensure completion of at least 1 task
- Enduring dispositions (distractions, meaningfulness)
meaningfulness of event( cocktail party) - Allocate attention according to instructions
what does the Multiple Resource Theory propose?
That we have several resources for attention, each source has a limited capacity.
What is the Dual task procedure and how is it done
- To assess attention demands
- Primary task is the task of intent and secondary is the basis to make inferences about the attention demands of primary
What is the Action Effect hypothesis and what does it propose?
proposes benefit of external focus during performance, to focus attention on intended outcome of movement rather than movements
What is Automaticity
- Performance of skill with little to no demand on attention (related to amount of practice.)
What is Visual Selective Attention
-The process of directing visual attention to locate relevant info in env.
Is it possible to make an eye movement without also making shift in attention?
Not possible
What is visual search?
An active search for regulatory conditions based on action goals.
What is Feature Integration Theory?
-Initial search based on specific features (color/shape/env)
What 3 things does visual search influence on action prep?
- Action Selection
- Constraning of the selected actions
- Timing of action initiation
