motor learning 3- CH 10 Flashcards
Components of the Working Subsystem
- Phenological loop
- Visualspacial sketchpad
- Central Executive
Components of long term subsystems
- Proceduaral mem
- semantic mem
- episodic mem
Working memory - Function, duration, capacity
- info processed to allow person to achieve action goal of problem at hand
- maintains info 20-30s
- can store 7 items(+/-2)
Procedural Memory
Stores info about “how to do” specific activities
Semantic memory
General knowledge about world based on experiments (concepts)
Episodic memory
Stores knowledge about personally experienced events
Declarative knowledge
knowledge that can be verbalized ( what to do to perform skill)
Procedural Memory
Knowlege that enables us to actually perform skill (not verbalized- how to balance on bike)
Types of explicit memory tests
Recall tests- no cues/aids
recognition tests- more options
What is an Implicit memory test
assesses info in memory that is difficult or impossible to verbalize
Trace Decay
Forgetting due to passing of time
What is progressive interference
inference prior to presentation of info that needs to be remembered
what is reteroactive interference
interference after the presentation of info that needs to be remembered
2 movement characteristics related to memory performance
- Location + distance- movement end point remembered better than movement distance, end location remembered better in body space
- Meaningfulness of movement- if it can be related to something person knows
3 strats to ensure memory performance
- Increase meaningfulness
- Create intention to remember
- Organize sequence of movements
