A

Motivation from within. The self satisfaction of successfully completing a task (pride)

Extrinsic Motivation

A

Motivation from an outside source. Praise from coach, players, scouts etc.

Extrinsic Motives

A
  • Attract to the activity and provide early motivation (beginners)
  • If overused it may undermine the value of activity and therefore also intrinsic motivation as players compete purely for the reward
  • Extrinsic rewards may create pressure to win which can lead to cheating
  • Loss of motivation if not rewarded
