Define intrinsic motivation.
From within. Satisfaction of completing a task, pride, self-satisfaction.
Define extrinsic motivation.
From outside sources. praise from the coach, other players, and scouts.
Define tangible motivation.
physical, can be touched, eg. trophies, certificates.
Define intangible motivation.
non-physical, eg. praise, concern, encouragement.
What are extrinsic motives?
Attract to activity and provide early motivation.
What are the problems with extrinsic motives?
-If used too much may undermine the value of activity+therefore intrinsic motivation, players compete just for rewards.
-May create pressure on players to achieve and if don’t get rewarded motivation can be lost. Some pressures promote cheating.
What are the benefits of intrinsic motives?
