What are the benefits of setting goals?

What are outcome goals?
A goal set against the performance of others and based on a result.
End result.
What is an example of outcome goals?
A team cold perform poorly but scrape the victory and this is a success. If this achievable it maintains motivation and focus.
What are performance goals?
Focussed on getting a better performance.
Specific standard.
Could lose and still gain motivation.
What is an example of performance goals?
Could improve your PB or accurately replicate a skill.
What are process goals?
Based on improving technique.
Technique or strategy.
What is an example of process goals?
A better arm movement on a pass or wrapped foot on a cross.
What is the acronym to help you make a good goal?
S.M.A.R.T.E.R
What does S.M.A.R.T.E.R stand for?
S= specific
M= measurable
A= achievable
R= Realistic
T= time bound
E= evaluate
R= re-do
This S in SMARTER means specific, what does this mean?
-this means goals should be clear and concise
-they should improve specific improvements

a netball GA to score 90% of goals in the game/match
The M in SMARTER means measurable, what does this mean?
This means the goal must be quantifiable so the progress can be monitored.

reduce 100m time by 0.5 seconds
A in SMARTER means achievable, what does this mean?
this means the performer should be able to reach their goal allowing motivation to be maintained
R in SMARTER means realistic, what does this mean?
this means the goals needs to be reachable to help maintain motivation
