What are the four features of a group?

What is a collective identity?
Team recognised easily as wear same uniform/ colour. Develops affiliation, create motivation+belonging.
What is interaction?
Players working together to complete a task.
What is communication?
Non verbal and verbal. Coded plays.
What is a shared goal or purpose?
Achieving helps bind people together so they commit to each other and work hard achieve goals, raise motivation.
What are the features of task cohesion?
-Working to a common goal.
-Good coordination+communication.
-Help social cohesion.
-Success without social cohesion as task more important.
-Team work together rather than on personal goals or disputes.
-Success leads to more success.
What are the features of social cohesion?
-Supporting each other socially.
-Focus on helping each other.
What are the features of the Tuckman’s Model of group formation? (4 and a bonus)
-Forming
-Storming
-Norming
-Performing
What is forming?
Getting to know each other (strengths+weaknesses). Develop social relationships. Reliant on coach bring group together. Figure out goal.
What is storming?
Conflict as establish roles. Confrontations with leader.
What is norming?
Cooperation. Conflicts resolved. Team unifies. Cohesion develops+standards accepted. Motivation+success rise.
-stability
What is performing?
Common goals, success, team sport, understand their roles. Motivation high. Respect for other members and coach high.
What is adjourning?
End of season, coach evaluates pervious performance, plan improvements.
How long does each stage take?
Time taken in each stage changes.
Settled teams accepts new players quickly whereas representative teams take longer to settle.
Whether or not process occurs at all is down to cohesion of group.
Some never move from stage.
