- person’s motivation cannot be seen or measured, but a HIGH or a LOW motive manifests itself in a person’s behaviour

What does a person with high motivation show
A
- interests in people and objects in the environment
- is prepared to tackle tasks
- often initiates atsks
- good ability for decision making
- works purposefully
- can handle delay satisfaction
- good quality if task execution
- satisfaction and enjoyment
- shows perseverance
- has definite ideals and value systems
- high energy levels
- gladly learns new activities
- does not work at snail pace, but does not hurry through tasks at expense of quality

Possible reasons for low drive
A
- lower needs not satisfied
- pain
- failure
- ineffective behavior
- low levels of energy
- physical illness
- psychiatric illness which affects the limbic system
- chemical agents
- alcohol

How to evaluate
A
- orientated with regards to context of client
- methodology: interview, obser action during activity participation, co-lateral
- write up- get clarity about the evidence
- develop conclusion and provide feedback (report, ward rounds etc…)
