Motivating Operations Flashcards
Establishing Operation (EO)
any environment variable that:
(a) alters the effectiveness of some stimulus object or event as a reinforcer
(b) alters the current frequency of all BX that has been reinforcement by that stimulus, object or event
value- altering effect
either an increase in the reinforcing effectiveness of some stimulus object or even in which case the MO is an EO
or a decrease in reinforcing effectiveness in which the MO is an AO
behavior- altering effect
Evocative effect:
Increase in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforced by some stimulus, object, or event
Abative effect:
Decrease in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforced by some stimulus, object, or event
recovery from punishment procedure
the occurrence of response without its punisher
unconditioned motivating operation (UMO)
food deprivation and painful stimulation
reinforcer establishing effects
deprivation with respect to food water oxygent, activity and sleep have these effects
reinforcer abolishing effect
food water ingenstion, oxygen intake, engaging in activity and sleeping
conditioned motivating operations (CMO)
motivating variables that alter the reinforcing effectiveness of other stimuli, objects, or events but only as a result of learning history
surrogate CMO
CMO-S
accomplishes what the MO it was paired with accomplishes
transitive CMO
CMO-T
makes something else effective as reinfrocement
reflexive COM
CMO-R
alters a relation to itself (makes its own removal effective as reinfrocement)
precedes some form of worsening or improvement
motivating operation MO
alters the effectiveness of some stimulus or a reinforcer, the value altering effect
and alters the current frequency of all BX that has been reinforced by that stimulus, the BX altering effects
evocative effect
an increase in the current frequency of behavior that has been reinforced by the stimulus that is increased in reinforcing effectiveness by the same motivating operations.
abative effect
a decrease in the current frequency of bx that has been reinforced by the stimulus that is increased in reinforcing effectiveness by the same motivating operation
abolishing operation
a MO that decreases the reinforcing effectiveness of a stimulus, object, or event
