more on enzyme and digestion Flashcards
what are enzymes in the digestive system produced by
specialised cells in the glands and gut lining
what does the salivary glands do
produce amylase enzyme in the saliva
what does the liver do
produces bile which neutralises stomach acids and emulsifies fats
what does the stomach do
1) pummels the food within the muscular walls
2) produces pepsin (a proteas enzyme)
3) produces hydrochloric acid to kill bacteria and give the right pH
what does the gall bladder do
where bile is stored before its releases into the small intestine
what does the pancreas do
produces protease, amylase and lipase enzymes then releases into the small intestine
what does the small intestine do
produce amylase and lipase enzymes to complete digestion
also where the food is absorbed into the blood
what does the large intestine do
its where excess water is absorbed from the food
what does the rectum do
where the faeces are stored
