What is a mood disorder?

A

A group of disorders disturbing the individual’s mood. E.g. Depression.

Unipolar mood disorders

A

Depressive disorders. E.g. major depression, persistant depression, double depression etc. Usually chronic.

A

Depression accompanied with either mania or hypomania

Major depressive disorder

A

An absence of a manic or hypomanic episode before or during the disorder. At least one depressive episode.

Persistant depressive disorder (Dysthemia)

A

Similar to major depressive disorder, but differs in its course. Fewer symptoms, but the depression remains unchanged over long periods (at least 2 years).
