Monday - Pituitary Histology - aubie aubie aubie Flashcards
Pars tuberalis
Pars nervosa
Pars distalis
Pars intermedia
what do they come from?
All from oral ectoderm except Pars nervosa from neuroectroderm (nervosa - neuro)
tell me about where these things are: Pars tuberalis Pars nervosa Pars distalis Pars intermedia
Pars tuberalis - around the infundibulum
Pars nervosa - it’s the posterior pituitary
Pars distalis - largest part of anterior
Pars intermedia - near the nervosa. kinda the border of anterior and posterior
two components of hypophysis and where they are from:
Adenohypophysis - oral ectoderm (anterior)
Neurophyppophysis - neural ectoderm (posterior), includes infundibulum
Two major cell types in the pars distalis
chomophils and chomophobes (degranulated phils)
types of acidophil chromophils
what do they secrete?
Somoatotrops - GH (also called STH for somoatotropin hormone)
Mammotropes - Prolactin
- increase in pregnancy
types of basophil chomophils
what do they secrete?
Thyrotropes - TSH
Gonadotroptes (largest) - FSH, LH/ICSH
Corticotropes - ACTH, MSH (melanocyte stimulating)
Where do you find remnants of Rathke’s pouch?
Called Rathke’s Cysts in the Pars intermedia.
cuboidal cells and colloid are present
Where are the cell bodies of nerves in pars nervosa?
Supra optic and paraventricular nuclei of hypothalamus
supporting nuroglia cells in the pars nervosa are called what?
Pituicytes
There are acidophils, basophils and chromophobes in the pars distalis. How do you tell them apart?
Acidophils are light red/pink
Basiphils are darker/purple
Chomophobes, cytoplasm doesn’t stain much but nucleus does.
Type of capillary in the pars distalis:
sinusoidal
Pouch of stuff between the pars distalis and nervosa
It’s a Rathke’s pouch, full of colloid. This is the pars intermedia.
