moles II 5.1 Flashcards
1dm3 =
1000cm3
moles=
volume/24dm3
volume=
moles x 24dm3
reacting gas moles
covert mass of reactant 1 into moles
use the mole ratio from the balancing numbers
convert moles of reactant 2 into volume
how is the concentration of a solution measured
how much route is dissolved per unit volume
concentration=
moles of solute/volume of solvent
what does a titration calculate
measures the volume of acid needed to neutralise a particular volume of alkali
equipment used in titrations
volumetric pipette
burette
titration set up
use pipette to place 25cm3 of unknown alkali into conical flask
add a few drops of phenolphthalein or methyl orange
fill a burette with acid and clamp above conical flask
titration usage
measure initial vol of known acid
use burette to add acid into the flask drop by drop and swirling the flask
as soon as the colour changes close burette
measure final vol of acid
(final vol - initial vol)
