Moisture-Associated Skin Damage Flashcards
Types of MASD.
- Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis.
- Intertriginous Dermatitis.
- Periwound Moisture-Associated Dermatitis.
- Peristomal Moisture-Associated Dermatitis.
What is Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis?
Chemical irritation when urine/stool comes into contact with the skin - erythema - maceration - painful partial thickness erosions with weepy serous exudate.
What is Intertriginous Dermatitis?
Sweat is trapped in skin folds with minimal air circulation - frictional damage on both sides of the fold resulting in inflammation and increased risk of infection.
What is Periwound Moisture-Associated Dermatitis?
Excessive production of wound exudate causes skin to become macerated and breakdown.
What is Peristomal Moisture-Associated Dermatitis?
Inflammation and erosion of skin related to moisture beginning at stoma/skin junction.
Management of MASD (3).
- Cleanse.
- Moisturise.
