module2 chapter 4 Flashcards
Define strong acid
strong acids release all of their hydrogen atoms into a solution as H+ ions and completely dissociates in aqueous solution
Define weak acid
Only release a small proportion of its available hydrogen atoms into solution as H+ ions. A weak acid partially dissociates in aqueous solution
Define alkali
An alkali is a base that dissolves in water releasing hydroxide ions (OH-) into the solution
Define titration
A technique used to accurately measure the volume of one solution that reacts exactly with another solution
How do you fill a volumetric flask
So that the bottom of the meniscus just touches the graduation line
What are the precautions you must take when calculating the mean titre
Only use your closest accurate titres
By repeating titres until all agree within 0.10cm3 you can reject inaccurate titres
