Amines ,Amino Acids And Polymers Flashcards
Aliphatic amine
Nitrogen attached to at least one straight alkyl chain
Aromatic amine
Nitrogen attached to benzene
How are amines classified into primary secondary and tertiary
By the number of alkyl or aryl groups attached
Why do amines act as bases
The lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen can accept a proton
What mechanism do amines use to react
Nucleophillic substitution
Preparation of aliphatic amines
Form salt from haloalkane and ammonia then add aqueous alkali to generate amine from the salt
Formation of secondary and tertiary amines
React primary amide with haloalkane to form salt then react with alkali (NaOH)
Preparation of aromatic amine
Heat nitrobenzene under reflux with tin and hydrochloride acid to form salt
React with excess NaOH to produce aromatic amine
