What is a safety plan?
Actions that Child Welfare must take to ensure the safety of the child. It analyzes what danger threats must be controlled by whom, under what circumstances and agreements and by what time frame. Includes how the plan will be overseen by the department.
What is the difference between safety plan for present danger and safety plan for impending danger?
Safety plans for present danger are to be immediate, made before you leave. Before information collection.
Safety plans for impending danger are after the collection of information
What are conditions for return?
What must change for in-home safety management to allow for reunification. Must be specified in the out-of-home safety plan.
What safety plans should not be based on?
Promissory Commitments (I will…)
What is a case plan?
Serves the purpose of trying to help create fundamental change in functioning and behavior that is associated with the reason that the child is unsafe.
What is the difference between safety plans and case plans?
Safety plans are at home for controlling danger for the child and case plans are based on treatment for the adult
Until when are safety plans good for?
Until the case is closed
How do we determine if we do an in-home or an out-of-home safety plan?
We must perform a safety plan analysis which includes five criteria.
What are the five criteria that is needed to perform an in-home safety plan?
- Parent willingness
- Appropriate home environment
- Safety providers available (informal and formal)
- Caregiver’s mental health capacity
- Is there a home
