Q
When will you use the Tearless Trauma technique?
A
When the patient expects to have a hight SUD (7 or greater).

Q
What are the 7 steps for the Tearless Trauma technique?
A
- Identify a specific bothersome event from the past (stay focussed on just one event, which might be hard in case of abuse over a few years).
- Ask the client to GUESS what the intensity MIGHT be when they were to imagine the event. Without going through the move, make a guess. When they close their eyes, get them back to the guessing, they don’t go over it.
As a tool you can ask them to put the experience in a box with a lid on it, and ask them what the intensity would be like if they were to open the box. - Develop a phrase or movie title to use for the EFT process and then do a few rounds of tapping on this (“Even though I have this… movie…). When this is too intense, just mention this movie.
- After this round ask them to guess again and compare that guess to the original one.
- Perform more rounds of EFT and keep checking in with the new intensity guesses. Again global: “Even though I’m guessing this movie will upset me ” “Even though I might have to imagine this movie ” “Even though I’m not thrilled about going through this event ”
- Once your clients are down to a low guess (3 or lower), then ask them to actually imagine the incident and see how accurate the guess was.
- When intensity is a 0, continue with additional testing (vivid visualisation) or move on te Tell the Story Technique.

Q
What is the primary use of the tearless trauma technique?
A
It is to take the edge off a very intense memory before getting into the details of that memory.
