Q

What is the point of using language during EFT? When is it not needed?

A

The point is to keep the patient focused on the targeted emotion or physical sensation. When someone is experiencing a lot of emotions, the language is not needed. Ask them to keep their eyes open to prevent dissociation.

Q

Why don’t we tap the ring finger?

A

The meridian on the ring finger is on the other side of the finger in comparison with the other fingers. To prevent confusion the top of the hand is used for that meridian.

Q

What can be included in the first part of the setup statement?

A

Use the language and the words as described by the patient, don’t change their language!

  • Details of the moment (What’s happening at that point in the story?)
  • Somatic sensations (Where & how in the body is the emotion being felt?)
  • Name of the emotion being experienced NOW
  • SUDS level

Q

What are your options for when a patient cannot utter the second part of the setup statement?

A
  • “I am working on accepting myself”
  • “I hope to, one day, accept myself, deeply and completely”
  • “I am willing to learn to love and accept myself.”

The clinician and patient can work to co-create a completion phrase for the Setup Statement that resonates for the patient.

Q

How many rounds of tapping do you do before checking the SUDS again and what do you do then?

A

You do 2-3 rounds of tapping before asking the SUD. After that you create a new setup statement using the new information that came up.

Q

Why do we focus on the negative?

A

It helps the patient focus on the emotions that are there and that are associated with the event.

The energetic disruption that results in the
present-day emotional upset was caused by a “negative” emotion in the past. By focusing on that present-day emotional upset, we allow for the manifestation of that emotion to be expressed and addressed. By clearing the present-day manifestation of emotional upset that results from the energetic disruption, we allow for the positive, that is already assumed to be present, to shine through. Remember the completion phrase of the Setup Statement, “I accept myself deeply & completely.” This is saying that we are whole and complete as we are, let’s remove the obstacles (energetic disruptions) to the experience of that wholeness.

Gary Craig, the creator of EFT, had this to say regarding this topic (paraphrasing), “The sky is as blue as it can be, we don’t have to add more blue to it. What we need to do to appreciate the blue is to remove the clouds.” EFT allows us to remove the obstacles (energetic disruptions) to appreciating our wholeness.

Q

What do you use as reminder statements?

A

You use the input from the client. Use the words they put in the setup statement as well. Best not be too creative here, since you might trigger other memories.

Q

The emotions we tap on are those as experienced in the…

A

…now. We focus on the emotions and sensations that are being experienced in the present moment rather than a remembered emotion or sensation.

Q

How do we modify the setup statement for subsequent rounds?

A

Modify your language to reflect the changes taking place and the decrease in intensity. Example:

“Even though I still feel some sense of embarrassment, that now feels like a 2…”
A new Reminder Phrase to include might be, “This remaining embarrassment”

You can also ask your client what is left or if something new came up.

16
Q

What are the ways to tap the karate chop point?

A

With four fingers, or with both karate chop points together.

17
Q

How to tap the top of the head point?

A

Get the tip of the ear and link them both to each other by an imaginary line. The back of the head point is a bit further back than what you think. Do not use two hands for this, because this is not a bilateral meridian.

18
Q

How to tap the eyebrow point?

A

The eyebrow point is related to the bladder meridian.
When you go over the beginning of the eyebrow you can feel a dent in the bone there. That is where the point is. You can use one or two fingers, you can use one or both hands.

19
Q

How long should we tap at a point?

A

Around 7-10 times, but really until it feels enough for you.

20
Q

How to tap the side of the eye point?

A

This is the gall bladder point. We tap not on the temple, but on the bone, not on the eye side.

21
Q

How to tap underneath the eye?

A

Find the hollow under neath the iris in on top of the bone. It is the stomach meridian.

22
Q

How to tap under the nose?

A

Just in the middle between the upper lip and the nose. It is the last point of the governing vessel.

23
Q

How to tap the point below the lip?

A

Tap on the deepest point there.

24
Q

How to tap on the collarbone point?

A

Find the u shape on top of the sternum. Go down 2 cm and go to the side 2 cm. Use 4 fingers. This is the kidney meridian. Tap with 4/5 fingers.

25
Q

How to tap under the arm?

A

It is the spleen meridian. It is the bra line spot, use 4 fingers. It is not in the armpit.

26
Q

How to tap the thumb point?

A

It is the lung meridian. Tap on the spot where the half moon hits the skin.

27
Q

What is the meridian on the index finger?

A

It is the large intestine meridian.

28
Q

What is the meridian on the middle finger?

A

It is the pericardium meridian (heart sac), the triple warmer.

29
Q

What is the meridian on the pinky finger?

A

This is the heart point.

30
Q

What is the point of putting the negative and the acceptance in the Setup Statement?

A

This creates a safe detachement, or a compassionate detachement. I am not the problem and the problem isn’t me. Non-judgemental awareness, self-compassion.

31
Q

What is important in the Setup Statement?

A

It has to be correct for the client. It has to be true for them
