Project manangement

Project manager
Responsible and accountable for managing the project to maximize its success
triple contraints
1.”COST: How much will it cost? You want to know how the item fits in your budget.
Can you afford it? Often this includes time and the cost of quality.
2.TIME:How long will it take to get? This is both hours of work and calendar time.
You pay more for ““rush”” orders or delivery.
3.SCOPE:What is the scope? (Or, what features/functions does it have? Or, how good is it?)
QUALITY: An aspect of the scope that defines to what degree the characteristics meet the customer’s expectation”
Working manager
Besides a lack of time to correctly manage the project, the “working” project manager may also not have project management skills or training. Has other roles besides PM
Dedicated manager
(only) role in life is to be a project manager regardless of the operational needs of the business.
Change requests (CR)
for changes in scope, schedule, or funding should be submitted to the appropriate Change Control Board (CCB) for a decision.
Change control board (CCB)
The CCB ensures that the change does not negatively impact the project triple constraints.
8 and 80 rule
it states that a project manager should avoid controlling tasks of less than eight hours or team members will feel micromanaged. As a project manager, you must find the line between hovering over people and ignoring them. This is where the “80” part of the rule comes in. The project manager should not let more than 80 hours (or two weeks) go by without checking in.
Basic communication tenets:
- establish expectations
- address conflict immediately
- stay focused on the project and its goals
- remember you are dealing with a team and individuals
- conflict is an opportunity
