Essential vs nonessential vs conditional amino acids
Essential AAs can not be produced, nonessential can be made from essential AAs or as proteins break down, conditional are not usually essential but can be if body is undergoing stress or illness

4cal/g protein, 4cal/g carbs, 9cal/g fat
Complex vs simple carbohydrates
Complex carbs are long chains of sugar molecules, simple sugars are only one or two molecules
Unsaturated vs saturated vs trans fatty acids
Unsaturated fatty acids are oils, low potential for raising cholesterol levels
Trans fats is a byproduct of solidifying unsaturated oils, and raises LDL cholesterol
Saturated fats are solid at room temperature, primarily from meats, also raises LDL.
Fiber definition
complex carbohydrate that cannot be digested; has important functions in health (constipation, gallstones, hemorrhoids, irritable bowel, diverticulosis)
Vitamins definition
Organic substances the body needs for cellular functions. Can be added to products to make more nutritious.

Inorganic substances that body needs for proper development and body chemistry
