G-Factor Theory
Idea that one large factor (Ie- IQ) affects all aspects of ability (Process. speed, spacial, vocab, etc)
Gardner’s 8 Multiple Intelligences
Idea that all intelligences can be independent (ex: good in spacial, but bad in kinesthetic), but interact or work together
Average Range for IQ
85-115 (with 100 being the average)
Theory of Successful Intelligence
Successful ppl are able to balance & use weaknesses & strengths to self-improve

- Appropriate activities & material @ home
Flynn Effect
Due to higher standard of living, IQ has steadily grown from generation to generation
Flynn Effect Possible Components
- Better nutrition
- Less disease
- Higher Parental Edu
- More Schooling
- Higher parental Involvement
SES & IQ
Higher SES families tend to have higher IQs than children from lower SES families (due to resources)
Self Fulfilling Prophecy
Having pre-consieved ideas carry out the result subconsciously (ex: trilling low SEL student w/ less care since “they are going to fail regardless”)
Stereotype Threat
Internalizing the stereotype to extent that it affects performance (ex: Girls are bad at math)
School’s Intelligence theory played out:
- Tasks that incorporate all intelligences
- Culture that values/praises all intell.
- Give youth power & ability to excel
- Take into account diff in ways youth present info
