What 7 steps do you need to take when there is a gas escape and you cannot attend immediately
1) Report the issue to the ESP
Tell the customer to do the following:
2) Turn off ECV
3) Naked flames – off
4) Electrical switches – don’t touch
5) Ventilate well
6) Ask them to let the ESP in
7) Telephone calls – don’t use mobile where there is a gas leak!

When reporting a gas escape to the ESP what 8 pieces of information do you need to provide?
ESP telephone number can be found under ‘G’ in the phone book as well as on the meter
1) Who - Name, address, tel number of person who reported the leak
2) Where - the smell is most noticeable
3) When – first noticed
4) ECV turned off?
5) ECV off – still smell of gas?
6) Gas smell outside of property?
7) Adjoining buildings affected?
8) Special circumstances? E.g. elderly, handicapped residents etc
What are the 2 things should you turn off, 2 you shouldn’t touch and the other one open if anyone smells a gas leak and you can attend?
1) Turn off ECV
2) Turn off - naked flames
3) Don’t touch - electrical switches
4) Don’t touch - mobile phones - where there is a gas leak
5) Open - doors and windows - ventilate well

Lighter - it has a specific gravity of 0.6
Name two situations where you should evacuate the house?
1) People’s safety is at risk
2) Someone has been overcome by gas, vapours or products of combustion

1) Prevent the build up of gas in a property
2) Phone the ESP if the gas continues to leak
3) Leave supply off until problem fixed
What levels of gas in air are flammable?
5% - 15%
What are the 4 steps that should be take if anyone smells a gas leak, following turning off the ECV, opening windows etc and you can attend?
1) Tightness test
2) Fails tightness test – ask customer, trace, repair and redo test
3) Installation can only be left on if it has passed tightness test + no smell of gas
4) When ECV turned off if there is a smell of gas phone the ESP and stay there until they turn up
If there is a gas leak will you find the highest concentrations near the ceiling or the floor?
The ceiling - it has a specific gravity of 0.6
When you encounter a gas escape what are the 4 priorities?
1) Safeguard life
2) Safeguard property
3) Find and secure gas escape
4) Carry out final check
