Module 173: Ecology Flashcards
What do ecologist study?
Ecology which is the study of the interactions between organisms and their environment.
What are Abiotic factors?
Such as weather, temperature, humidity, etc affect organisms. Nonliving component of the ecosystem.
What is Biotic factors?
the presence of other living things in the environment also affect organisms. A living component of an ecosystem.
What is considered an Population?
All individuals of a given species in a specific area.
What is considered an Communities?
Multiple populations living together in a given area.
What is biodiversity?
The persistence of multiple species in a community.
What does Species richness refer to?
of species in a community.
What does Evenness refer to?
How many members of each species present in a community.
What is a Biomes?
Used to describe ecosystems that share broad, general characteristics.
What are some of the major types of Biome?
Desert, Westlands, Rainforests, &Grassland
What is an Symbiotic Interaction?
Organisms living together and interacting.
Mutualistic interaction?
Is when both organisms benefit
Commensalistic interaction?
One organism benefits, the other doesn’t but isn’t harmed
Parasitic interaction?
(Predator-Prey) One organism benefits and other is harmed
Antagonistic interaction?
One is toxic to another
